Entertainment Pundit, Yaw Preko has applauded the late President J.J Rawlings for his contributions towards the growth of Ghana’s creative arts industry.
According to him, it was under the late President that the major tourism events and hotels were constructed to accommodate tourists who came for these events.
“A 60-year development plan was made under Rawlings. It was under his regime that the major hotels like Lababdi, Golden Tulip which was known as the Continental hotel back then were constructed to help support tourism.
“Under Rawlings, you will find the establishment of the National Commission on culture. Around that time, culture was the ‘ish’. But now, we don’t respect our culture and the National Commission on Culture”.
Speaking in an interview with Happy 98.9FM’s Doctar Cann on Showbiz Xtra, the pundit disclosed, the tourism fund which many in the Ghanaian entertainment industry presently benefit from, was set up by the late President in the ’90s.
“That same fund is still helping our film producers to run movies and helping industry players”.
He motioned that it was under the leadership of the late President that the emancipation day which is marked in the country annually was instituted.
“Miss Universe, the Kwame Nkrumah Mausoleum were all established under his era”.
To him, the man Rawlings was a great man who developed the creative arts industry regardless of the pressure he faced in equally developing the health, agriculture and health sectors.
“For him to be able to give the creative arts industry that attention and build the economy at the same time was something that needs to be regarded”.
