YFM took over the microblogging site Twitter when the number one urban radio brand through its Twitter Space launched ‘#YUncensrd.’ #YUncensrd is a conversation the brand will be having on Twitter spaces on a regular basis.
The maiden edition which took off on the 31st October 2021 had discussions around ‘the role of Ghanaian DJs in Amapiano. The conversation saw a lot of DJs including DJ Nickie Cartel, DJ Pizarro, DJ Loft, DJ Ganj and Mz Orstin contribute to the discussion.
The Programmes Manager of YFM Accra, Eddy Blay who joined the maiden discussion said:
‘’The Twitter Spaces is a good place to have great conversations and YFM is doing that with #YUncensrd. Like the name depicts no topic is off-limits, we will put all conversations into context, the good, the bad and the ugly when it comes to the showbiz and music industry will be discussed. We will also find solutions to problems.
My takeaway from the conversation was that Ghanaians DJs and musicians are not jumping onto the ‘Amapiano’ beat as they should. 2020 saw the popularization of the genre, in Ghana the style of house music emerged in South Africa since 2012. We need to register our presence when it comes to Amapiano’’ he said.
He added that YFM has become the first radio station to have hosted a Twitter Space in Ghana and this initiative is set to continue long-term
Amapiano is a hybrid of deep house, jazz, and lounge music characterized by synths, airy pads, and wide and percussive basslines. It is distinguished by high-pitched piano melodies, Kwaito basslines, low tempo 90s South African house rhythms, and percussions from another local subgenre of house known as Bacardi.
