Ghanaian singer and lyricist, Bernard George Kobena Brako professionally known as Ben Brako, has indicated that Ghana’s music industry is lagging behind due to its failure in making the right investments
In an interview on Y107.9FM’s, Myd Morning Radio Show, YLeaderboard Series, the legendary musician appreciating the dynamism of music highlighted that music as an enterprise needs the right partnerships to thrive.
He juxtaposed the current state of the industry to that of others in other African countries, and linked Ghana’s regress to evident factors such as subversion and ignorance to the potential impact of music. “Nigerians are investing in the right way, they are connecting with people globally in the right way for them because they put what they did out there to the right people and everything came together for them.”
Ben Brako believes that Ghanaians must come together as a united front to promote Ghana music and desist from seeing it as a duty for exclusively industry players. “We need to see this as something we must do together; if you can’t see something, you can’t do it.”
He added that the efforts being made to achieve worldwide recognition of Ghana’s music industry are seen but are not enough. “In Ghana you rarely have people in the corporate world investing in the art.; today if Davido goes out there, Nigeria goes out there, if Burna Boy goes out there Nigeria is what is seen. We have people organizing events like PANAFEST but that’s not enough- they should go all out.”
