Legendary highlife musician, Rex Omar, has asserted that no artiste can be successful if he or she does not have an ego.
To make this point, the Hitmaker noted that there is no such thing as helping an artiste. According to him, the fact that one invests in an artiste does not mean they can or should treat the artiste as their inferior.
“There must be a clear contract. You are investing your money in a talent so from day one, the contract must be there and also, when the artiste reaches a certain level, they must have an ego, without that you can’t be an artiste.
Shatta Wale is who he is because he has an ego. Most artiste managers don’t understand this. An artiste who is always dull will never succeed and people must understand this. It is part of the artistic work”, he said.
According to Rex, artistes must be emotional to the extent that they are even eccentric because it is all part of creativity.
He stated that Ghanaians need to understand that in managing an artiste, the manager must first understand what he is managing and that is why it is called talent management. If there is this understanding, then there will be no problems when the artiste gets to that level where he needs to build his ego.
