Ulemu Msungama, Malawi’s minister of youth and sports has mentioned that entrepreneurship is the best option for graduates and youth in Africa.
He mentioned that the youth and students in his country were being equipped with entrepreneurial skills and knowledge and entreated the youth in Africa to engage in entrepreneurial activities instead of hoping to get white-collar jobs.
We are making sure we empower them for entrepreneurship, so like if you are into agriculture, they should be able to do something and employ others that is the way to go, but the syndrome of saying that I have graduated and I have to get a job and with my laptop driving a vehicle, that is nothing, after all, entrepreneurship to me I believe is one way to go. He told Y 107.9 FM’s Jonny Stone on the ‘Myd Morning’ show at the Accra International Conference Center.
He added that the youth in Africa had to know themselves and know their worth and take up opportunities presented to them.
You have to define yourself, the problem we have had in Africa is that we have made others define us, you can bear me witness that there are a lot of people who have ended up doing something not because they wanted to do it, but because their parents taught them to do it.
Ulemu Msungama who is also a member of the National Assembly in Malawi finally advised the youth in Africa to have visions and set objectives for themselves.
The youth and sports minister was present in Accra for the 2021 edition of the Youth Africa Connekt summit held at the Accra International Conference Center from 20th – 22nd October 2021.
