Starting a business on a small scale is far more beneficial than starting on a large scale for a new and young entrepreneur, says Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Pice Restaurant, Pius Kusi Agyemang.
On his accord, any entrepreneur who starts a business on a small scale gains all the necessary lessons, and makes all the errors that will help their business when they expand.
He believes one must not be focused on how much they have before starting a business.
“You can start small as a business owner. Start on a smaller scale and gradually expand. If the business grows organically, it gives you a foot in the industry. You become tried and tested. Having the financial backing from your family to start a large scale business is good, but if you have little money, you can still start your business,” he told Y102.5FM’s NYDJ on the Ryse N Shyne show.
Sharing some insights into succeeding as an entrepreneur, he noted that today’s business person is different from those in the 15th Century. “To be successful, you need to research into the industry you want to venture in and be aware of the rules. Know regulators if you want to be successful.”
Emphasizing on the importance of education, he advised entrepreneurs without any formal education to take short courses and read books that will help them grow as business people. “You can also take mentors whom you can tap into their knowledge and experiences in the industry.”
He charged students to also take every course they offer in school seriously. “Every course in the university is important. I realised this when I ventured into entrepreneurship. Some of the courses regarded as irrelevant give you a good sense of judgement and a discerning mind which are advantageous to all business people. Also, form a network of people for your business to work and this network is usually made in school.”
Pius ended by saying entrepreneurship is risky and “you need to be sure about what you do.”
