YouTube has launched YouTube.com/Fashion, a new fashion hub featuring original content and popular content from the industries biggest names.
Fashion and Beauty channels on YouTube have increased 6x between 2014 and 2018, bringing the platform billions of views. As a result, it has decided to give “give the people what they want” in the form of “an ultimate destination for style content that bridges both our fabulous endemic creator community and the more traditional worlds of fashion and beauty.”
Welcome YouTube.com/Fashion, or “slash fashion” for short.
Users who go looking for original Fashion and Beauty content on YouTube will be able to find videos from various fashion and beauty creators, industry professionals, publishers, and luxury fashion brands.
/Fashion will also feature style content from people’s favourite YouTube creators who will appear within a featured section dedicated to them. There, fans can watch fashion shows, or a range of videos ranging from the latest in beauty to “beauty Today” – a section where they can find content from gurus like Jackie Aina and Huda Beauty.
The new hub also features collaborations between fashion brands and YouTube creators. As Derek Blasberg, Director of YouTube Fashion and Beauty explains in a recent blog post: “Look no further than Louis Vuitton, who teamed up with Emma Chamberlain and the Dolan Twins; and Dior, who invited Wengie, the Merrell Twins, Dulceida and Juanpa Zurita to their shows in the past 12 months to create fabulous fashion content.”
Blasberg also explained that it has also helped “established creators welcome new fashion professionals onto the platform.” One of those mentioned is RuPaul’s Drag Race winner Violet Chachki, who teamed up with Gigi Gorgeous for a makeup makeover.
In September Fashion Month, /Fashion will be livestreaming the latest collections directly from runway shows like Ralph Lauren, Michael Kors, Dior and others, and take people behind-the-scenes with “Stories of Style.”
Finally, YouTube is now bringing more new voices on YouTube, and giving them industry access, aiming to make YouTube.com/Fashion a diverse and inclusive place, “filled with the latest fashion and beauty trends, content and more.”
Let’s just hope it doesn’t have the same ending as YouTube Gaming.
