Ghana’s number one youth-oriented radio station, YFM, has launched the third edition of its highly anticipated Y-Rated Awards at its studio in Accra.
The Y Rated Awards is YFM’s annual music awards show designed to acknowledge the most hardworking artists who got played on Ghana’s number one music and youth station.
The first and second editions of the awards scheme were part of activities to mark YFM’s anniversary which falls in November. This year, however, takes a different twist as the award scheme is not only celebrating Ghanaian artistes, but also recognizing the impact of digital music in the Ghanaian music space.
Speaking about the third edition of the Y Rated Awards, Osei Kuffour the Coordinator in charge of the Y Triangle enumerated the reasons for the scheme.
‘’When COVID19 pandemic came, we better appreciated the technology and the internet in all spheres of life including entertainment. Social distancing and lockdown didn’t stop music, it enhanced our innovation and creativity. As a brand, we recognise that hence our decision to celebrate the digital power of music.’’
He also encouraged sponsors to come and support the third edition.
‘’When we come up with beautiful concepts and innovations, we need support to bring it to life. That is why we are always grateful to our sponsors who always join us to bring the best to the Ghanaian youth. Here is another rare opportunity to be part of greatness, come on board let’s do it together’’ he said.
Listeners can expect categories such as Best Rated Song of the Year, Best Rated Take of the Year, Next Rated Artiste of the Year (which goes to new artistes of the Year), Best Rated Reggae-Dancehall song, Best Rated Highlife Song, Best Rated Afro-Pop Song of the Year, Best Rated Rap Song of the Year, Best Rated Group of the Year, Best Rated Collaboration of the Year, Best Rated African Song of the Year, Best Rated Gospel Song of the Year Best Rated Video of the Year, and the new introduction, Best Rated Alté.
