Endorsed Guinness World record attempt setter, for longest singing marathon individual, Afua Asante Aduonum has called for more support from Ghanaians to help her break the existing record.
Earlier this week, Afua confirmed that she received approval from Guinness World Records to break the longest singing marathon by an individual and set a new record with a goal of singing for 117 hours – 120 hours.
While speaking at a press conference held today, Afua Asante disclosed her passion for music and noted that she was inspired by Ghanaian RnB singer Efya Nokturnal to set the record. “This inspiration came about after the record conversation was generated by our neighbouring country,Nigeria; then I chanced on a comment passed by Efya in an interview when she wished we can do something similar with Ghanaian music but I waited and just saw the atmosphere just become calm; then I told myself that I am going to do it and today here we are.”
She highlighted that the support from Ghanaians and other African countries has played an immense role in bringing her this far. She expressed her gratitude to all companies who have gotten on board to support her and the team. “I am officially informing Ghanaians about this. This is what I want to do, attempting the longest singing marathon for an individual; thanks to Nasco from Electroland, Aviation Social Centre, Verna from Twellium Industries, and Standout Care for Health care and all health related activities.”
The entrepreneur touted herself as a warrior in a battle and with a sole goal of putting Ghana and specifically Ghanaian music on the world map. She added that this is a platform opened to all Ghanaians. “Even if I want to give up on myself at this point I can’t because the support is too much. I thank all other African countries for reaching out and supporting me but this is not about me, it’s about Ghana it’s a win for Ghana.”
Afua Asante Aduonum will commence her singathon at the Aviation Social Centre, Accra on Sunday, December, 24 2023 and ends on Wednesday, December, 27 2023 which will break the record of previous record holder, India’s Sunil Waghmare and setting a new record.
Per the rules of GWR, Afua Asante Aduonum can either take breaks for 5 minutes after every hour or 20 minutes after four hours of her singathon.
Afua is allowed to have supporters on the grounds to cheer her but must be the only singer on the grounds with no aid of any kind from supporters.
