I try to be fair-Kwami Sefa Kayi

June 24, 2020
in News

Kwami Sefa Kayi popularly known as ‘Chairman General’ has divulged that in his line of work as a political host, he would describe himself as a fair host rather than a neutral host.
Explaining his point on the Y Leaderboard series with Rev Erskine on the Myd-Morning Radio Show, he said: “I am not neutral. I think I am fair. Neutrality is very subjective. There is a saying that is attributed to Archbishop Desmond Tutu. He says that in the quest for neutrality if an elephant and a mouse are in a fight and you say you are neutral, as far as the mouse is concerned, you are on the side of the elephant.
I just think that I try to be fair. I don’t always get it right. But I believe that from the general conversations we have around, I probably have done more than fifty percent when it comes to fairness”.
He noted that the pettiness in our politics is the cause of the perception that some political hosts are biased in their line of duty. He added that until we change our perception as a nation, the pettiness in politics will continue.
“There is a lot of pettiness in our politics. It is the reason why sometimes you will have some of us being the recipients of one anger here or the other anger there. If our politics doesn’t improve, we are going to be like this for a very long time. I don’t know how we will do it but the narrative has to change. The pettiness, the unbridled lust for power, the will-do-anything-that- we-can-for-it is what leads to the tensions, the anxieties, the fear and the uncertainty.
There is also pettiness in the perception where someone thinks you are not on their side. They just go ahead and actually sometimes use it against you. And so, that is where we are today. Maybe we need to have a broader conversation”.
Kwame Sefa Kayi is currently the host of Kokroko on Peace FM.
