Rising South African music star, Focalistic has applauded musicians on the continent for supporting each other.
To him, the South African amapiano sound has achieved worldwide attention because of the collaborative efforts of artistes from other African countries.
He pointed out Tanzania’s Diamond Platnumz and Nigeria’s Davido as such artistes.
According to him, working together with Diamond Platnumz was dope and full of respect.
“The respect is how it all started.
Diamond Platnumz came to South Africa for like a month and we just chilled without working on any songs and all. He was trying to understand the wave we were riding on and for him to come from all his achievement to respect young kids and understand their wave, that is massive love,” Focalistic told Y107.9FM’s Kojo Manuel.
Focalistic noted that Diamond strived to do amapiano right “because I made him understand the genre means a lot to so many people. So immediately you understand what it means, you will deliver on the product.”
Giving a shout out to Davido on Y107.9FM’s Dryve of Your Lyfe, Focalistic posited, “these are the people who have taken time to understand the culture and not just try to steal it.”
To Focalistic, such artistes have taken time to understand the amapiano culture “put people some positions and used their platforms to shed more light on amapiano and people who are making moves in it.”
Focalistic who has worked with Diamond Platnumz and Davido driving home his point noted,
“I always say Africa is collaboration over competition.”
