American hip hop artiste, Ginger Silvera better known by her stage name Gin, has always had the passion to do music but had to adequately prepare herself for her childhood dream.
Although she had a great love for music as a young girl, she started out as street promoter back in the day, way before social media took off. With a love for the Hip Hop culture she started organising events while preparing herself as an artiste.
“I started booking and promoting my own events and finally developed my booking agency. I always had the love to do the music myself but I knew I wasn’t ready personally so it took some time,” she told Dorothy Cornelius on Y107.9FM’s Weekend Rush show.
Although it took a while, Gin trusted the process. “It took me quite a long time to actually decide to be an artiste. It was a nice progression and it took some time, and I am glad I did and I was able to branch out.”
Gin is impressed about what she has been able to achieve in her musical journey from touring the world and having interviews in Ghana. “I am really happy and I just want to follow my dreams so I just keep going,” she added.
She insists being a promoter and booking agent prepared her for the challenges that come with music and has not had an experience she could not overcome after venturing into music.
“I had more challenges as a promoter and booking agent and I settled in easily as a musician. I have been made resilient from my previous experiences and it has become quiet easier for me work as an artiste. I know what to look out for, to know if there will be a contract or not and I am lucky I have gone through such experiences in my previous careers and they have equipped me as an artiste. Sometimes things are not perfect obviously but I have the heads up,” she emphasized.
Ginger Silvera was born in South Gate, California and grew up in South East Los Angeles. Then she moved to Lynwood, California at the age of 6 years old. That’s where Ginger fell in love with hip-hop
In 2003, Ginger started in the industry as a promoter, organizing events and booking talent. She did events with very notable DJs such as KutMasta Kurt, DJ Melo-D from the Beat Junkies and DJ Revolution from the World Famous The Wake Up Show.[1] Gin recorded her first song as an artist in 2006.
Gin released her debut album Spiritual Bars on September 18, 2018.
