Manchester United Players' Wages To Be Slashed After Missing Out On Top Four

A majority of Manchester United players will be taking a loss on their wages after the club missed out on a Premier League top-four finish.

The Red Devils were held to a 1-1 draw to Huddersfield Town at the John Smith’s Stadium on Sunday, meaning that they are no longer able to qualify for Champions League football for the following season.
According to the Daily Mail, most players have a clause in their contracts that means they will lose 25 per cent of their wages after the club failed to finish in the top four.

Paul Pogba is on £300,000 a week at Old Trafford, but reports suggest that he will be losing a lot more money than most people would expect.

Football Leaks: The Dirty Business of Football released figures that showed the 26-year-old World Cup-winning Frenchman can earn up to £1.8m extra if the club secure a Champions League spot.
Alexis Sánchez, who was recently named the worst United signing of all time, is on a whopping £500,000-a-week salary, but that will be reduced to £375,000 should he remain at the club next year.
Other United stars that could potentially be hit with a pay cut include Romelu Lukaku, whose £250,000-a-week salary would drop to £187,000; David de Gea, whose £200,000 would be lowered to £150,000; and Fred, whose pay package would move from £175,000 to £131,000.
It’s not only the players that will feel the brunt of missing out on the Champions League. The Daily Mail reports that United could lose up to £65m in TV revenue and prize money.
Should the Red Devils fail to make Champions League football for two consecutive seasons, their kit deal with Adidas would be slashed by up to 30 per cent.
In fact, the newspaper added that missing out on a place in Europe’s elite club competition for 2019 will result in the club losing more than £20m from their £750m deal with their sponsor.
Ouch. It looks like there’s a long, difficult road ahead for United fans before they make it back into the Champions League picture.
