Renowned Ghanaian boxing icon, Azumah ‘zoom zoom’ Nelson has explained why he preferred to knock out his opponents rather than leave the decision of the bout to the judges.
According to him, that was the only sure way to win a fight undisputed.
He made this disclosure in an interview on the Y LeaderBoard Series on Y 107.9FM’s Myd Morning radio show with host, Rev Erskine. “My fist and none other was my judge. I made sure I took my own judge to the ring to prevent judges from possibly giving the fight to my opponent.”
He noted that there are some instances where judges can award one’s points to the opponent. “You can beat your opponent alright but you may lose the fight because judges saw the fight in a different light.”
The boxing professor furthered that to prevent such instances, the knockout was his preferred moment in the ring. “After knocking your opponent off his feet, even a baby can tell you who won the fight if you ask him.”
Azumah Nelson has a boxing record of a total of 47 professional fights with 39 wins. Out of these wins, 28 of his fights ended in knockouts from his high-powered fist.
