What has appeared to be the bone of contention in entertainment circles after the outdooring of the 2022 edition of the prestigious Grammy awards.
Some industry players are of the view that Stonebwoy is a Grammy nominee since he featured on three albums of different artistes that were nominated for the “Best Reggae Album” category. However, others hold opposing views insinuating that Stonebwoy is not a nominee.
Richardine Bartee, CEO of Grungecake and member of the recording academy responding to the brouhaha about the legitimacy of Stonebwoy’s nomination explained that Stonebwoy was a nominee because he contributed to the nominated albums and will be duly recognized if any of the said albums won that category.
“So, there is a primary artiste and featured artiste on a song, but I don’t know the role Stonebwoy played on the said albums. If it was a feature or lead singles. But because he is an artiste that performed for the album, then if the album wins, because he is part of the album, he will also be someone that is recognized,” she said to Nana Quasi-Wusu (PM) during the ‘Dryve of your Lyfe’ show on Y 97.9 FM.
Richardine further cited Wizkid as an example to buttress the statements she made, “technically what happens is that if you are part of an award-winning album or an award-nominated album then you are part of that album. Beyonce’s album ‘Black is King’, Wizkid was on there, he was an artiste that was on a song that was nominated and won.”
She also explained that the Grammy awards was an American awards ceremony not a global awards ceremony, but had incorporated global and international categories.
“It is happening in America, so it’s an American award ceremony and now we have global award categories and international award categories,” she explained.
Richardine Bartee joined the recording academy in 2016 and has contributed to the success of the prestigious Grammy awards. The Recording Academy was formally called the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences; abbreviated ‘NARAS’, is an American learned academy of musicians, producers, recording engineers, and other musical professionals. It is famous for its Grammy Awards, which recognize achievements in the music industry of songs and music which are popular worldwide.
