Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Vodafone Ghana, Patricia Obo-Nai, has shared that one of the hardest yet most valuable lessons learned in management is understanding people.
She made this revelation in an interview with Rev Erskine on the Y Leaderboard series of the Myd Morning Show.
“One lesson that was hardest to learn was understanding people. You must have a very deep listening ear and speak less because you are a leader working with people. You need to be ahead of the thinking of your people and be there to meet their needs before they bring it. It is about how you will train and how you will grow people”.
She exemplified her point by stating, “You will be shocked someone will just appear before you and tell you ‘I am resigning’ and you will have missed all the hints the person dropped because you didn’t study the psychology of the people you worked with”.
She advised that all who want to take up leadership positions must prioritize the understanding of people as it makes a difference in leadership. “If you are able to carry people along, you will not work twice as hard. You will get the result”, she added.
