Ghanaian rap artiste, Lyrical Joe, who also identifies as LJ, has shared with YFM what in his opinion, makes a good rapper.
Speaking with Rev. Erskine on the Myd-Morning Radio Show, he first noted that a lot of things make a good rapper and these things may be different in everyone’s opinion, hence, he can only give his opinion.
Going into it, he said, “I feel like it’s not okay to judge based on one thing because we have rappers who have the strength of flow and they’re good at that, and there’re rappers who have the strength of punchline and they’re good at that. We also have rappers who have both. It means that they can flow through everything and that’s the kind of rapper I am.”
LJ added that, “The rapper that has just the punchline cannot move to the rapper that has the flow and tell him I’m better than you because he also has something that you don’t have. But then, when you have two, it means you’re ready to flow everywhere”.
He deduced from this that to him, a good rapper is one who has both flow and good content, and is always ready to flow on any beat and anywhere, just like himself.
